bangor municipal golf course, bangor

10-15km, skate and classic grooming

The Bangor Municipal Golf Course is a unit of the Bangor Parks and Recreation Department. Beginning in the winter of 2012-13, PVSC teamed up with course staff to offer groomed trails right in downtown Bangor. These trails feature rolling terrain that is great for beginner and experienced skiers alike. There are also some lights that allow folks to get out and ski on a short loop once the sun has set on Maine’s Queen City.

The Caribou Bog Ski Trail is a a point-to-point trail that starts at the Bangor City Forest and finishes at the Sargent Center in Old Town and is only groomed for special events. However, several loops accessed from Taylor Rd. in Orono are groomed by PVSC throughout the winter for skate and classic skiing. The Taylor Rd. loops offer significant hills (for our area), as well as flat and rolling sections. Maps of the Caribou Bog trails courtesy of the Orono Land Trust can be found here:

4km, skate and classic trail report for Orono Schools Trails

PVSC led a big effort to widen and reconstruct the trails behind the Orono schools, where we have been grooming since 2011. An important note is that the trails are designed to be skied in one direction to avoid collisions on the hills. Please enter the trails on the north side of the football stadium and exit on the south side.

15k, skate and classic - UMaine trails

The University of Maine Campus Recreation maintains and grooms all of the trails south of Stillwater Ave. in Old Town, while University Forests grooms trails north of Stillwater Ave. These trails are generally flat with some rolling sections, and is the most extensive cross-country ski trail network locally. Campus Rec advises skiers to follow them on Facebook to see the latest trail conditions updates: UMaine Trail System Update on FB. A trail map can be found on this campus recreation site.
