Great Caribou Bog

Groomed 3/20 am – Set track everywhere. Generally good conditions … a few places have frost heaves pushing up through the snow. Mushy & wet by the beaver flowage and railroad bed. Probably last grooming of the year.

The Caribou Bog Ski Trail runs from the Bangor City Forest to the Sargent Community Center in Old Town.  It is primarily a point-to-point trail, but there are a few loops near the Orono dump (off Taylor Road in Orono).

Portions of the loop near Taylor Road are groomed for skate and classic skiing.  The section of trail south and west of Taylor Road and the section north of Taylor loops are only groomed for classic skiing (and will probably not be groomed other than for specific events).

These trails were built and maintained by a dedicated PVSC volunteer who has since left the area.  The club would like to find a volunteer who could help coordinate maintenance and grooming needs for these trails.  Historically, there has also been a Great Caribou Bog Ski Tour and Race that occurs in late winter and brings skiers from the Bangor City Forest all the way to Old Town (complete with shovelers at the road crossings).  PVSC would like to continue its sponsorship, but we need someone to be the point person for this wonderful event.
